Bloodroot is native to eastern North America and has a long history of use among Indigenous peoples. Various Native nations used the plant for practical and traditional purposes, including utilizing its distinctive red-orange pigment as a dye.
Bloodroot was later incorporated into European American folk herbalism and became known within Appalachian and Southern folk practices.
