Botanical & Herbal Context
Sencha is one of Japan's most beloved green teas, crafted from the tender young leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Shortly after harvest, the leaves are steamed to halt oxidation, preserving their vibrant emerald color, fresh vegetal character, and naturally high concentration of beneficial plant compounds.
Unlike black tea, sencha remains minimally processed, allowing it to retain its bright flavor and delicate aroma. The result is a refreshing tea prized for both its taste and wellness-supporting qualities.
Traditional & Cultural Context
For centuries, sencha has been an integral part of Japanese tea culture and daily ritual. Traditionally enjoyed throughout the day, it is appreciated for promoting alertness, presence, and quiet contemplation.
The practice of preparing and sharing green tea reflects mindfulness, hospitality, and connection to nature. Sencha continues to be one of the most widely consumed teas in Japan and is valued worldwide for its clean flavor and gentle stimulation.
